MEHEDINTI County

   Mehedinti County lies down in the South – Western part of Romania and has 4,933 km2 surface (2.1% of the country’s total). The biggest European river – the Danube River, represents the South border. To the West, the county neighbours the Caras – Severin District and to the North and East neighbours the Gorj and Dolj Districts.


   The population of the county, according to the last census, is 322,000 inhabitants, having a population density of 67.8 inhabitants/ km2 and the town population percent is 47.2%.
   The administrative center of Mehedinti County is Drobeta Turnu Severin municipality with a total population of 117,000 inhabitants.
   The geographical location of Drobeta Turnu Severin has favoured its development as an industral, transportation and commercial center.
The main activity branches of the    Mehedinti County companies are: agriculture and connected services, forestry and forestry exploatation, food and drinks industry, textile and textile products industry, wood processing industry, metallic constructions and metal production industry, furniture production, buildings.
   Industrial production weight of the county into the national production is 18.2% at paper, 6.9% at wood plywood plates, 3.8% at fibrewood plates, 3.8% at textile manufactures, 1.8% at beech tree timber, 1.5% at furniture.
